Field Review: New Unisex Down Vest

You can't design in the outdoor space for as long as we have and ignore the versatility and sheer comfort of a well-made vest. A 90:10 blend of timeless goose down and technical synthetic insulation, our first ever vest release is a nod to two Mountain Standard pillars: mountain heritage, and all-season utility.

"The Down Vest looks simple and unassuming, but has so many built-in technical features that make it a reliable all-season garment in a region like the Rockies. We chose blended insulation (90% 700-fill responsibly sourced goose down, 10% synthetic) to prevent down migration and keep the insulation even as you wear the vest more and more. We use custom MTN metal snaps that follow Mountain Standard's draw towards minimal branding, and also improve the packability of the layer. And we reinforce the yoke and pockets with ripstop cire fabric to prevent staining, and repel water to keep you comfortable." Grant, Design

"I used to think that vests were one-dimensional urban layers, but at this point I've worn the Down Vest so regularly in the mountains that I can't believe I was blind to the functionality of the piece. It's super lightweight and doesn't spare any of that classic down warmth that keeps your core warm on the trail and at camp. Plus the Drop-In pocket is perfect for holding head lamps and beers. Definitely a layer to keep handy all the time." Andy, Community Development

"This is an awesome climbing layer. My arms stay free of baggy sleeves while I belay, and everything else stays warm and ready especially on cold mornings. I love that I can unbutton the vest from the bottom so it doesn't get in the way of a harness, and the nylon ripstop fabric has held up to some serious beatings on the wall." Brennah, Marketing
