DURABILITY RATING: 5/5
I have been on two camping trips where I wore the hoodie for about three days straight as my outer layer with a synthetic t-shirt underneath. On those trips I put the hoodie to use hiking, did a little bit of scrambling, as well as gathering and cutting wood, etc. On day three the hoodie still looked brand new (it may not have smelled that way though.) I have also utilized the hood and thumb holes multiple times and there still isn’t a thread out of place.
COMFORT RATING: 5/5
I find myself looking for an excuse to wear the hoodie because it is so comfortable and I love the longer length of it. So far my favorite trip with the hoodie was hiking Pikes Peak in late spring. It was a chilly, windy day on the mountain. I loved having the fitted hood not only for the protection from the high winds but also extra protection around my face and neck from the sun. The thumb holes were put to good use on the trip and were great to use with trekking poles.
SIZING RATING: 4/5
I would say I’m a pretty solid Large when it comes to Mountain Standard products and the hoodie was no exception. The fit goes in at the hips and is a longer cut making it perfect to pair with leggings. The arm length is a little long but works great with the stretchy cuffs around the wrists and while using the thumb holes
FEATURES RATING: 4/5
When it is not quite cold enough for gloves but still too cold for nothing the thumb holes have been wonderful! The fitted hood is really nice for those windy days or just hanging around the campfire. I usually pair the hoodie with the leggings so the only thing I find myself missing is a pocket.
OVERALL RATING: 5/5
When Mountain Standard added the hoodie to their line I just loved the look of it and purchased it right away. As I’ve worn it throughout the year I’ve only grown to like it more and it has officially become my go to item. I honestly think I underestimated it when I first got it but the versatility of the product continues to impress me.
Would you recommend this product to a friend or fellow adventurer?
For sure, I have already! I’ve even had a guy friend ask me about it because he loved the material.
What activities is this product best for?
Hiking, running, camping.
What seasons/settings is this product best for?
I have really enjoyed the hoodie hiking even throughout summer on high elevation hikes. Between the cold winds and harsh sun it has been the perfect addition. I love that it is light enough to be active in but will also keep you warm on those cooler Spring/Fall days hammocking or just chilling by the fire camping.
What’s the best thing about the product?
I would say the length and the thumb holes.
What’s the worst thing about the product?
Overall I love it but like I’ve previously mentioned I do occasionally wish the hoodie had a pocket.
What product would you compare this to that you’ve seen before? What makes it better?
I have seen a North Face hoodie that is similar. Although the NF hoodie had pockets it did not have the fitted hood or the added length offered by the Mountain Standard hoodie. I also didn’t like that the fit around the hoodie sleeve cuffs were looser on the NF one. The stretchy cuff bindings around the wrist of the MS hoodie are a feature I have really enjoyed.
