Hometown: Wichita Falls, Texas (not in Kansas)... went to school in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
Currently Resides: Lakewood, Colorado
Day job: Elementary Teacher in Arvada
Favorite way to earn your beers: Running, cycling, yard work, never sitting down (I'm not good at relaxing)
Your go-to RIMBY trip: I love the west! Whether that's western Colorado, Utah, or the west coast...I feel like the phrase "Wild West" perfectly describes the region I like to play in. It's wild, untouched, and I love not seeing a soul for miles and miles. Bonus points for empty (as in no people, yes water) hot springs.
What you never leave home without: Boone Doc. He's my co-pilot, watch dog, and my favorite adventure partner. I obviously can't bring him everywhere, but he's definitely a top priority on the packing list.
You’re definitely not an expert at: Any type of board sport (two feet on one plank...never gonna happen). Or completing books...I can probably count the number of books I've read from cover to cover on my 10 fingers (yes, this is terrible coming from a teacher - just don't tell my students).
Hype song: This really depends on what I'm getting hyped for. If it's a long drive "Company Man" by Jamestown Revival. Current work out song "Bounce Back" by Big Sean. I'll never get tired of listening to "Howlin' For You" by The Black Keys.
Spirit animal: Buffalo (some might say Bison). I have always been transfixed by these beasts. I love that they just stick together - they are a reminder of the greater whole. But, I recently took an online "Spirit Animal Quiz" and my result was a Lion with the motto, "Let's do it now!" ...seems about right.
Favorite outdoor cause(s): Keep It Wild (a partner with Leave No Trace) - Many people grow up, move to big cities, get 9 to 5 jobs, and lose that childlike sense of wonder and appreciation for the outdoors. These folks may appreciate being outside on a patio, pool deck, or crowded ski resort, but actually being IN the heart of the outdoors is where one can truly feel that sense of "wild". Don't get me wrong, the city is wild in it's own way, but it has been taken over by big industries, noise, fast cars, civilization - traces of man. When I step into the wilderness, I find joy and peace in knowing that I am the visitor, passing through the homes and habitat of those creatures around me. That sense of refreshment found only in wild places is valuable. It is essential for us to protect our lands and keep the wild exactly that...WILD.
Favorite MS product and why: Women's Hybrid Insulator - great for cool morning runs, not too bulky, the perfect layer to put under a shell for spring skiing.
Two truths, one lie: I used to sing in a country band. I have met the original cast of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. I drink at least two Nalgenes of water daily.
