I took a chance on a Mountain Standard Standard Issue Insulator a few years back and it proved to be my go-to 3-season jacket whether on the commute or out hiking.
I'm happy to say the Backroads lives up to that workhorse of a jacket in terms of versatility. The fit is the real standout, I've had jackets from top-tier outdoor brands (like Arc'teryx) and honestly this one nails it in terms of comfort. The jacket is trim but with enough space to layer, the hood is roomy but can be cinched down over a helmet or during high winds, while the pockets are deep and toasty.
In terms of looks it treads the line between being stylish enough to wear around town, while giving a nod to more classic outdoor aesthetics with the quilted pattern. The choice of Primaloft Gold Eco means the jacket has a great warmth-to-weight ratio, it regulates temperatures very well while blocking wind and holding up in rain or light snow. The nylon face fabric is also surprisingly soft against skin, and the small details like the YKK zipper and elastic adjustments are nice touches.
I can't wait for the cold to come back around so I can bust this jacket back out of the wardrobe!
